Fórsa says there are currently 180 clerical staff vacancies at Cork University Hospital that cannot be filled.
Administrators are protesting outside CUH this lunchtime demanding a halt to the HSE’s ban on recruitment.
Staff say it makes no sense to freeze hiring people as the health service enters a busy mid-winter period.
Speaking to RedFM News, Eddie Walsh from Fórsa says staff are calling on HSE bosses to end the freeze:
"Everything is going to be slowly ground to a halt unless these positions are filled. We’re into the middle of the winter surge that comes every year, now is the time to be having peak employment, not vacancies, which is going to have a severe impact on service users within the region.”
