Clonakilty author Louise O'Neill says she wants to focus on the complex nature of sexual violence in her future work.
The award-winning author and columnist was conferred with an honorary Doctorate of Law from University College Cork earlier today.
The university says the award is in recognition of her work which holds a mirror up to Irish society, and forces people to confront uncomfortable truths about Irish culture.
In the past, her writings have discussed issues ranging from rape culture to social media and victim-blaming.
Speaking to RedFM News, Louise says she strives to look at complicated issues with a nuanced perspective:
"I'm really interested in that story about who gets to tell the story. And you know, what is the meaning of truth? And how fascinating it is that two people can have an entirely different memory of one event. And I think we definitely see that with sexual violence - that one person can experience it one way and the other person can see it in a totally different way. And I think that to be able to look at really complicated issues with that degree of nuance is something that I'm really striving for, I think, with with my future work."
