The closure of a care home on Cork's northside has been paused until January.

Mount Cara House on Redemption Road which has capacity for 25 residents had been earmarked for closure after 30 years due to the challenges posed by Covid-19 and a reduction in occupancy.

The Board of Management at Mount Cara House released a statement last night to say that the closure of the facility had been paused until January, and that they were in constant contact with stakeholders to try and find a solution and to keep the facility open.

Staff and family members of residents held vigils recently calling for the facility to be saved.
