The mother of a Cork teenager whose hip has been severely dislocated for the past 12 years says she is finding it impossible to get a response from the government.
16-year-old Katie Byrne from Cobh lives with cerebral palsy and is unable to get surgery on her hip in Ireland.
Her family are calling on the HSE to fund surgery to repair her hip in the US, which they say will cost around €300,000.
Speaking to RedFM News Katie's mother Antoinette Burke says they have been forced to try to fundraise the money themselves
"You can do treatment abroad through Europe, but when it goes to America, No, they won't. This is why I asked where they're now outsourcing surgeries for children that I asked the Minister for Health, would he consider including Katie in these fundings, even though we have to take her to America. I haven't gotten a response yet and I probably won't get a response"
