A Cork woman who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer just eight weeks ago says she is overwhelmed with support after the people of Cork stepped forward to make her dream of renewing her wedding vows a reality.
Orla Flavin from Cobh told Mick Mulcahy on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM earlier this week that she wanted to create as many memories as possible for her two and three year old daughters.
Orla also said she was hoping to renew her wedding vows with her husband Neil on the couple's 14th wedding anniversary on the 12th of March.
Her appearance on the show prompted an outpouring of support from businesses and people in Cork, meaning Orla and her husband will be renewing their vows on the date.
Hotels, photographers, musicians, beauty salons, florists, wedding dress and suit shops and even a magician stepped forward within 48 hours to make the day a reality.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM, Orla says it means the world to her:
"We had a beautiful wedding but we didn't have the big wedding with all the trimmings because I felt it was more about the two of us. And so like being able to celebrate it this way is just, oh my god, it's just going to be a dream come true. It's amazing. On behalf of my little girls who will have beautiful photographs that they're in with their mom and beautiful memories- thank you all so very, very much, I'm humbled and overwhelmed at the response that my story has had and I feel that I don't deserve any of this."
Mick Mulcahy: "You deserve every bit of it Orla, you deserve every bit of it."
