The country is to be hit with a cold spell later this week.
Sub-zero temperatures are expected from Tuesday night onwards.
The cold snap is expected to last until next weekend.
Emer Flood of Met Eireann says sleet and snow can not be ruled out in certain areas.
"Well for this week ahead it is going to turn increasingly cold especially from midweek onwards.
"At the moment we're in an easterly airflow that's pretty cold at the moment, but the winds will be switching to a northerly airflow and that will allow an Arctic airmass to move over the country.
"That will bring quite a sharp decrease in temperatures later in the week, along with a higher likelihood of wintry precipitation."
