The workers who are members of trade unions such as SIPTU, Fórsa and the INMO are to take part in the demonstration next Tuesday to highlight the fact that many of them are badly paid, with poor or no pension provisions and they lack security of employment
SIPTU activist and worker in the EmployAbility Service in Cork, Chris O'Leary, says these workers provide important health and social services to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our society
Speaking to RedFM News Chris O'Leary says it's time for change so members' terms and conditions are on a par with the quality of the services they provide
"We're looking for respect for the work that we do and that means pay increases, better standards, and the workers are very much saying at this point, look, we need to have stability and otherwise, the whole thing will. And that's that's a problem and we're not threatening anything here where we're seeing quite clearly nobody else who work in these conditions, and we need better pay, respect for the roles that we carry out and the work that we do"
