Community sector and Section 39 workers from Cork say they feel neglected and as a result are to hold a demonstration in Dublin next week seeking better pay.

The workers who are members of trade unions such as SIPTU, Fórsa and the INMO are to take part in the demonstration next Tuesday to highlight the fact that many of them are badly paid, with poor or no pension provisions and they lack security of employment.

SIPTU activist and worker in the EmployAbility Service in Cork, Chris O'Leary, says these workers care for persons with a disability, the elderly, vulnerable families, meals on wheels and young people.

Speaking to RedFM News Chris O'Leary says because these workers are feeling under valued many are leaving the sector:

"There are hundreds of organisations, right across the country, at the moment that actually get a contract from various Departments and work under those contracts. We're finding that the contracts are now quite restrictive. You know, pay increases haven't been things have come lightly at all, to be honest about it. And we are seeing, and beginning to see a haemorrhaging out of the sectors as well, which which is a huge concern for the services that we provide to the most vulnerable".
