The Taoiseach says he will consult with the Minister of State for Disability after concern was raised by the parents of children with disabilities in West Cork
Deputy Michael Collins says 180 children attending the Children's Disability Services facility in Bantry are due to be transferred from the centre to a section of the Adult Day Care Centre in the town.
Deputy Collins says parents were not consulted by the service provider about a possible move and says the current facility that hosts the children was built at a cost of €1.3 million after being funded entirely by local donations and fundraising.
Speaking in the Dáil, West Cork TD Michael Collins told the Taoiseach that the decision to move facilities must be reversed.
"The purpose built centre is a standalone centre which affords dignity, respect and privacy for the children and their families.
"Over 180 children are being discommoded to facilitate the temporary relocation of a small number of adults, when CoAction has two vacant residential houses in Castletownbere for over a year now.
"The children are very familiar with the centre, and the move to a new centre will be traumatic for them.
"Taoiseach, I've communicated with CoAction over this negative move, and we need Minister Rabbitte to work here with our public representatives and the parents."
