Cork is one of the worst affected areas in the country when there’s severe weather.
Work is set to begin on a new tidal defence scheme to help reduce the impact of floods on the city.
The council is going ahead with the multi-million project, which includes developing low walls, pedestrianising plazas and pumping stations.
But these local business owners have mixed views:
"Badly needed because you never know when it's going to happen and it's not clean water we're clearing up."
"Well, I think it's very foolish scheme on the long term in the short term I think it's would bring a lot of money to the construction industry and engineering industry and I think really that's all that's the positive about it. Everything else about it is negative."
