Cork Airport say a €90 million fund announced in the Budget will allow them to rebuild their international route network.
Michael McGrath announced the package for the industry yesterday, with details on how it will be divided among the country's airports to be clarified in the coming days.
The operator of Cork and Dublin Airports -DAA- recorded a loss of €284 million in 2020 after passenger numbers fell by 78% due to the pandemic.
Several airlines such as KLM and Ryanair have announced routes from Cork in the last few weeks and it's expected Christmas will be a very busy time at the airport.
Speaking to RedFM News, Communications Manager at Cork Airport Kevin Cullinane says they expect to announce more routes in the coming weeks.
"Given the fact that it's earmarked to be invested in this year's budget, we would expect to have sight of how much of that €90m allocation will be coming directly to Cork to help us rebuild our route connectivity post pandemic.
"We're confident of even more new route announcements in the coming weeks as a result of the supports announced by the governments.
"We're very grateful for the support, and we looking forward to rebuilding that international connectivity going forward."
