A Cork based charity says this Winter will be one of the toughest in living memory.
The Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll has appealed for help from the public to support over 1,700 donkeys in their care.
They say the current cost of living crisis is having a major impact on animals, and that they are struggling to afford food and other basic items.
The charity has already seen a 26% increase in welfare interventions this year as many of the guardian homes they depend on have closed.
Country Manager of the Sanctuary, Laura Foster, reminded people to contact the national animal welfare helpline to report cases of neglect and abandonment this Winter.
