Cork-Based Teacher Says Jump In CAO Points For Third Level Courses Was Inevitable

It follows the record-high Leaving Cert results earlier this week

Vice-President of the ASTI Anne Piggott says she was not surprised to hear that points have risen for almost 75% of degree and Level 8 courses this year, and by almost 60% for Level 6 and 7 courses.

Here in Cork Medicine has risen in UCC by 2 points, while Dentistry has jumped by 23 points.

However the rise has not been as harsh in the Arts courses, with many arts degrees seeing little or no change.

Over 53,000 people received their first round CAO offers earlier this afternoon, with many predicted to be disappointed following the jump in points.

Speaking to RedFM News, Anne Piggott from the ASTI says she hopes the additional college places announced will help to balance the scales in the students' favour:
