Cork Boat Sets World Speed Record Following 1,500km Voyage From Killybegs To Reykjavik, Iceland

The Echo is reporting today that the boat, the "Thunder Child 2" was designed and built in east Cork by Youghal-based Safehaven Marine

Five crew members left Donegal at 3 o'clock in the morning on Thursday, and reached Reykjavik  in just under 32 hours, setting a new world record time.

They travelled 866 nautical miles in total, averaging just over 30kts underway.

Today, the boat is continuing its journey further north, above the Artic Circle, to its ultimate destination of East Greenland.
