A Cork-born bio-medical professor has won a European Research Council grant to pursue further research into pioneering non-surgical solutions for back-pain.
Conor Buckley is a Professor of Bio-Medical engineering at Trinity College Dublin.
His research lab is developing a material that can be injected into damaged spinal discs that cause back pain.
Speaking to RedFM News Conor says the €150,000 grant will allow him to conduct more research around the material he has developed
"The key to this material that we have developed is that it is the same composition chemically as the native tissue. We have been able to engineer it, to make it sticky so it can stick to the tissue in there. So what the ERC proof of concept allows us to do, is to do more research with this material"
