Cork cancer survivor says she was blown away by the work and passion of the people working on new ways to treat the disease

A Cork cancer survivor who features in an upcoming documentary on cancer research says she was blown away by the work and passion of the people working on new ways to treat the disease.

Ann Marie O'Sullivan was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2020 and was the first person in Munster to be treated with a newly developed combination of chemotherapy.

The Cork-based Breakthrough Cancer Research say it's a "stark reality" that one in two people will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime but say the five-year survival rate for people with breast cancer has increased from less than half 50 years ago to 88 per cent now.

Speaking to RedFM News, Ann Marie says she was very inspired by the cancer researchers she met and paid tribute to the patients who take part in research trials:

Ann Marie will be featured in a new documentary Biseach ón Ailse which will be broadcast on TG4 on Thursday June 22nd at 8:30pm
