Cork Chamber says the upgrade of the R624 Cobh road needs to be prioritised in order to allow development at Cork's Docklands.
The construction of 1800 apartments at the Docklands have been put on hold after Goulding Chemicals were refused planning to build a port facility at Marino Point.
The refusal means Goulding will continue to operate on Centre Park Road meaning the apartment plan must be shelved for now.
Cathal McSweeney of Cork Chamber told RedFM News the lack of progress on the Cobh road was cited as a factor in the planning refusal:
"Under current plans, the upgrade of the road is likely to take anywhere up to 9 years. This needs to be accelerated in national and local development plans. It is vital that the road upgrade is prioritized Alongside the appropriate rail infrastructure and freight rail facilities."
