Cork Chamber has welcomed the vote to progress the Mahon Cycle Scheme to the detailed design stage which will include segregated cycle tracks and greenways.
Rory Kelleher, Director of Public Affairs at Cork Chamber said:
“This approval is movement in the right direction. It will play a role in realising active travel and facilitating plans to increase the cycling modal share to 10% by 2028 in the Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028 and the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy. Advancement and engagement in Mahon’s community cycling scheme can be an exemplar in how cycling infrastructure can integrate with existing and future planned public transport. It will support active travel and build confidence to make a switch to safe and direct walking and cycling, while improving connectivity and accessibility for all throughout our city region.’’
