The Chief Executive of Cork City Council says it's time for a collaborative approach to implement badly needed flood defences in the city.
It follows years of opposition by campaign group Save Cork City who say the planned €150m Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme threatens the historic fabric of the city with its emphasis on raised quay walls.
In an open letter in today's Irish Examiner Chief Executive Ann Doherty says there's no point in claiming to "Love the Lee" when its waters will eventually lap around the ankles of those who are trying to make a living.
