The City Council has defended the decision not to hold an official switching on of the Christmas lights event in the city again this year.
Council Chief Executive Ann Doherty has defended the decision, saying that it was taken due to overcrowding concerns.
The event was last held in 2019, with tens of thousands of people in attendance at the ceremony on Patrick's Street leading to concerns about crowd management.
Ann Doherty said the event had become "very dangerous" because a large number of people were being funneled into a very small space.
She added that planning events such as this take many months and involve other agencies such as the HSE and the fire service.
Ann Doherty said the Christmas Lights switch on did not proceed to planning because of concerns over health and safety and the unknown quantity of it.
