Cork City Councillors are to be briefed by childcare providers into the crisis in childcare provision in the city

The lack of options for parents has led to some driving up to 30km away to secure a place for their child

Childcare providers say the Government core funding is not matching what they need to keep their businesses afloat so many are coming off the scheme

Speaking to RedFM News, Averil  Keane who owns 'Care-a-Lot' childcare in Innishannon says providers have no choice but to pass costs onto parents

"I know eight different services that are coming off the core funding. we have no other option, and it's a pity, because the whole idea of it was to help parents, but it's just they're not helping us to keep our fees down and subsidising us enough to keep going and making a profit, because at the end of the day, we are running businesses. and we have to make money out of it"
