Cork City Fire Brigade say Landlords who own derelict buildings in the city need to ensure that their premises wont be used as hotspots for anti social behaviour during the winter
Second officer with the brigade, Victor Shine says there are fears that people using these properties to light fires to keep warm, may result in tragedy.
There are currently 700 derelict properties within a 2 kilometre radius of the city.
Speaking to RedFM News, Second officer with the Cork City Fire Brigade, Victor Shine, says these buildings could potentially be used for drug-use or fires and need to be secured.
"I encourage people that have properties that are unoccupied, whether it be waiting for renovation or in a state of disrepair and maybe on the derelict buildings register to attend their buildings make sure that they are secured checking them regularly and that people aren't after taking up residence. Take responsibility of these buildings and make sure that nobody gets injured on their property."
