Due to the COVID19 outbreak tonight's celebrations will be virtual with performances from Corcadorca, GMC and Stevie G

In recent years Cork City Council have organised community events and designated bonfires on St John's Eve in a bid to reduce the number of illegal bonfires which had become problematic requiring calls out by the emergency services.

Due to the COVID19 outbreak tonight's celebrations will be virtual with performances from Corcadorca, GMC and Stevie G will be live from the Kabin in Knocknaheeny followed by a special online performance.

Sandra O'Meara of Cork City Council told RedFM News it was important to mark the night:

Assistant Chief Fire Officer, David Spillett says they're appealing to the public to refrain from lighting any bonfires as emergency services continue to face challenging situations as a result of the pandemic:
