The City Council says traffic across the city has returned to pre-Covid levels during the week.
Both remote workers returning to the office and an increase in commuting students have contributed to the rise in traffic flow in recent weeks.
A continuing increase in population and economic activity in the city means the council are expecting the traffic levels to grow even more, despite the street network not having further capacity for it.
Calls have been made for the delivery of schemes like the MacCurtain Street Public Transport Improvement Scheme to allow for an efficient bus service, as well as developing new cycling and walking paths to encourage road users to switch to a more sustainable mode of transport.
