Commuters are still being left at bus stops across Cork city despite a reduced timetable aimed at resolving the issue in the face of driver shortages
Bus Eireann says they are still short 11 drivers to run a full timetable of services in the city but they are making progress with 18 people in training school
The company says the reduced timetable is working well with over 99% of scheduled services operating fully
However commuters say the buses are less reliable than before and their experience in the past fortnight has not been positive
Speaking to RedFM News ahead of the temporary reduction of services Allen Parker of Bus Eireann says the quality of service has been impacted by the challenges posed
"There's definitely operational challenges there that we see due to traffic congestion, illegal parking at bus stops so, you know, all those issues do need to be addressed along with more bus priority so that we can deliver a consistent and reliable public transport service. In relation to the recruitment challenges specifically, we are making progress and we are reducing the gap that we had"
