Cork County Council says it is "deeply saddened" over the "tragic loss of the two race participants" during today's IRONMAN 70.3 event in Youghal.
In a statement to RedFM News, the Council extended its sympathies to the families and friends of the athletes, and to those who have been affected.
It says it is currently offering every assistance to the IRONMAN GROUP and all those impacted.
And expresses gratitude to the response agencies involved, including Fire and Emergency personnel, for their unwavering efforts to save the men.
