A thaw is on the way as the worst of the wintry weather comes to an end.

Cork County Council says it's deploying its full services to clear snow in Charleville, Buttevant, Newmarket and other affected areas.

The nationwide yellow alert for low temperatures and ice ends at midday, but melted snow could freeze over in parts tonight.

However Brandon Creagh from Met Eireann says another could be issued in the coming hours, but the end is in sight:

"The Status Yellow low temperature warning is elapsing at midday today, and then after that. we have no warnings in effect. but do keep up to date with met.ie with that ice possible again tonight, there could be a warning issued later today."
