Cork County Council is to seek funding for the establishment of a dedicated flood defence and relief team with it's own ringfenced resources
It comes after a 15,000 strong petition, looking for better flood protection, was submitted to Leinster House by the Midleton and East Cork Flood Action group last week
The news has been welcomed by the group who have huge concerns over what they say is the "lack of urgency" in providing measures to protect against future flooding in the area
Caroline Leahy from the group told RedFM News that any progress is welcome as people are living in fear of another flood in Midleton
"Definitely a step in the right direction. It definitely shows that there is some work being done, and some progress for us as a group, that you know there might be some hope, with some sort of prevention or interim measures going forward. People are still very anxious, it's going to take an awfully long time, I don't think anyone's going to find comfort in their homes until we have a full blown plan for defences here"
