Cork East TD Seán Sherlock has announced that he will not contest the next General Election.
The Labour Party deputy from Mallow has been a member of Dáil Éireann since 2007, having been a Town Councillor since 2003.
He served as a junior minister in three Departments between 2011 and 2016.
The father of three says his decision was influenced by the scale of the recent reconfiguration of the Cork East Constituency.
In a statement to RedFM News, Deputy Sherlock says it was the privilege of his life and the he is "deeply grateful to the people of Cork East", stating that "This has been a difficult decision ... made ... with a heavy heart."
Ivana Bacik has said that Sean Sherlock has "always been a voice for those most in need".
