An eating disorder clinic in the city says they are being contacted by an increasing number of younger people seeking help in recent months.
The Eating Disorder Centre Cork say demand for their service on Penrose Quay is growing on this side of the pandemic and is resulting in waiting lists for around 90 new clients.
220 people between the ages of 10 and 80 receive treatment from the charity’s eight therapists.
Speaking to RedFM News, Clinical Director of the centre Erin O’Reilly outlines the difference she has seen over the past six months:
"If you asked me six months ago, I would have said people between the ages of 25 and 50, were our highest. Currently in the last six months, it seems to be ages 14 to 25. We have to teach people critical thinking and to look at social media and look at all of these areas and just see that this isn't real life, you know? So a lot of filters to look at this with a critical eye instead of believing everything that you see when you open up your phone."
