A Cork music festival is one of three festivals this summer that are being targeted by the HSE to spread harm reduction advice around drug use.
Ahead of the festival season medical experts are concerned that new psychoactive substances are being mis-sold as MDMA, cocaine and cannabis.
The HSE says there are also worrying trends across Europe of high strength drugs appearing.
The first event where the information campaign is being rolled out is the Life dance music festival in Westmeath this weekend, followed by Indiependence in Mitchelstown, in July and a third event, yet to be determined, later in the summer.
Head of Addiction Services, Professor Eamon Keenan, says he hopes the harm reduction campaign will help save lives.
"What we're seeing across Europe and the UK is the mergence of newer drugs, or maybe more potent drugs particularly MDMA or ecstasy.
"In November of last year we saw the highest strength ecstasy tablet ever recorded which was identified by a drug checking service in Manchester."
