The owner of a prominent Cork hotel says the public is heeding the government's health advice.
Michael Magner, of the Vienna Woods hotel in Glanmire believes the rising number of Covid cases is prompting many to cancel their booking.
He says that the hospitality sector had been optimistic about December business but that this has been reversed.
Cancelations for the 10th of December alone are due to cost the hotel 40,000 euro in lost sales.
Speaking to RedFM News, Michael Magner of the Vienna Woods hotel says there have been cancellations across all levels of the hospitality business:
"The health advice from the health authorities and from governments has resulted in people listening. And as a result, in our industry, in the hotel industry alone, and right across hospitality, we've seen what was probably a very busy month of December fall right back. We've experienced cancellations across all levels of our business from meeting rooms and events and of course, the traditional Christmas party which we thought was going to take place this year. Regretfully now it's gone."
