A Cork hotelier has welcomed renewed efforts to encourage people to take up a career in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Michael Magner from the Vienna Woods Hotel was speaking at the launch of Fáilte Ireland's plan to revitalise the Irish tourism industry in the city yesterday.
Tourism and hospitality providers in particular lost a lot of experienced staff due to prolonged lockdowns during Covid.
Fáilte Ireland's plan includes the ongoing development of a tourism careers website, a new online learning hub and tailored supports to help businesses with less than 20 employees.
Speaking to RedFM News, Michael Magner from the Vienna Woods Hotel says his hotel is part of the Fáilte Ireland's Employer Excellence Programme.
"It's really beneficial, and it's having a very positive impact on our teams and for those participating businesses on the programme, you can see it's having impact on them as well.
" I think as we move forward into the first of March, when the season starts to kick off, we look forward to probably a buoyant 2023.
"But, you know, we have to be mindful that we can't lose sight of those costs. And the cost of living is still a very, very, very strong concern in all our minds."
