Cork Independent TD Michael Collins has defended comments he made in his explosive Hot Press interview
He has described yesterday's headlines declaring "Collins agrees that IRA bombers should go to heaven" as sensational and unfair ahead of the magazine's publication today
Deputy Michael Collins says he gave his views on the late Martin McGuinness who he said had swopped the sword for the pen and worked to create peace in Ireland
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Deputy Collins says he felt the headline didn't reflect the reality of his interview
"I said Martin McGuinness swapped the sword for the pen, and any man or woman who swaps a sword for the pen and creates peace in this country surely be to God, there is a God up there that shows forgiveness and that person would go to heaven. And I thought it was unfair to release that sensational headline yesterday before the magazine came out today"
