A group representing Indian healthcare workers is protesting outside the immigration office in the city this morning to highlight delays in getting appointments for residency permits.
The Cork Indian Nurses group say many workers are unable to return to India to visit family as they will not be allowed to return to Ireland without the permit.
They are calling for an online system to be introduced and other immigration offices to be set up in the county.
Janet Baby Joseph is the organiser of today’s protest:
"It's the nurse health system, the Irish health system, needs the nurses. But it's not only about the nurses, the students. are going through the same issues. All other workers. The migrant workers are going through the same issues. But it's just that the Cork Indian Nurses are representing all those people who are in trouble. At the moment, somebody has to bring it forward, because people are all crying and complaining about this, but nobody has brought it forward."
