Cork is in for a very wet 24 hours as a Status Orange warning for rain comes into effect at midnight tonight

The city centre is not expected to experience any tidal flooding issues however West Cork is expected to see the worst of the wet weather

Spot flooding is expected and some river and coastal flooding

Cork City and County Council engineers will be closely monitoring the weather tomorrow and will have crews ready on the ground to respond to any emergency situations

Listeners are being urged not to make any unnecessary journeys during the slow moving weather event with the rain not clearing until Sunday

Speaking to RedFM News Joanna Donnelly from Met Eireann says the heavy rain will lead to fast flowing and swollen rivers which may burst their banks

"We've also got river and coastal flooding, so we've got an onshore wind,  tides aren't at their very peak, but there's always, you know, Cork and the risk of flooding due to the onshore winds and low pressure and excessive amounts of rain. So we're really looking at a tenuous situation over the next 24 hours, particularly for Cork"
