Cork is to get two new TD's as the two city constituencies revert to five seaters from four
The Electoral Commission says Cork should have 20 TDs in the next General Election as the Dail expands to 174 members
The changes are necessary to take account of an 8% rise in the population since 2016
There are five constituencies across Cork and currently there are 18 TDs elected to the Dáil.
Under the recommendations, the city will get two more TDs - one for Cork North-Central and one for Cork South-Central.
Chair of the Electoral Commission Justice Marie Baker says it's a significant shake-up around the country
"There are very few constituencies, where there wasn't a change, and as you will see this is quite a dramatic increase in numbers, and there are some significant changes. The number as I said is, 174, that is the number we recommend and is the number we felt best reflected our constitutional mandate"
