Cork Kerry Community Healthcare has launched it's Winter Wellness campaign, issuing advice for everyone on how to stay well this winter.
The campaign sees experts give tips to stay well through advertisements, social media messages, and videos.
For older people, Vera McGrath, an occupational therapist has given this advice amid the cold snap:
- To prevent falls, get your vision checked and wear shoes that fit well with non-slip soles.
- Consider getting a pendant alarm or panic button bracelet.
- Eat regular hot meals and stay hydrated.
- Keep an eye on weather alerts, and plan ahead if needs be.
For those with a respiratory illnesses, the St. Mary's Health Campus Enhanced Community Care chronic disease management hub team are encouraging them to do the following:
- If you have inhalers or other medications, make sure to take them as your doctor advises.
- Get your flu vaccine, Covid-19 booster and five yearly pneumonia vaccine.
- Keep as active as you can.
- Keep warm by wearing a snood or scarf.
- Plan ahead by having a COPD or asthma action plan in place for the winter months.
In general, CKCH are reminding everyone to:
- Stay on top of flu and Covid vaccines.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue to stop the spread of illnesses.
- Clean hands properly to protect from viruses and infections.

"Winter can bring extra challenges for us all, but there are simple steps we can all take to protect our health and wellbeing. We hope this campaign will help people to stay as well as possible at home. We encourage you to cut out and keep the guides appearing in newspapers, and to share the videos with anyone that may find them useful."
