Learner drivers face a 14 week wait for a driving test in Cork city at St. Finbarr's GAA Club in Togher.

Elsewhere across Cork, there's a backlog of seven weeks at the Wilton Centre, six weeks in Skibbereen and four weeks in Mallow.

The longest waiting lists in the country are in Dublin where the Killester Centre is reporting a 31 week wait and those in Drogheda face a 25 week backlog.

Nearly 46,500 learner-drivers are on waiting lists nationwide.

Driving instructor Ian Daly, from automaticlessons.ie, says some people benefit from that:

"I've had pupils who will travel because they want to get a quicker test. I know a couple that went to Castlebar. People will go to the smaller towns and people will look at the pass rate and go to Donegal if they could because even if it means an overnight stay, they will get a quicker test and it's probably easier driving in a more rural area rather than in Dublin."
