The Irish Cancer Society needs to raise €30m euro to meet the record demand for its services.

The charity is calling for support this Daffodil Day as 44,000  people in Ireland are diagnosed with cancer every year.

Transport was provided for over 5,000 patient appointments in Cork last year alone.

Megan Dalton Rafferty from Togher who was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 27 told RedFM News the Irish Cancer Society played a huge role in her recovery:

"Every place I've gone to in hospitals, i've always had to pass an Irish Cancer Society Daffodil Centre. I'd always see people in there talking to a nurse or staff member. They also have a scheme where they bring people to their cancer appointments. In Cork alone last year there was 5000 free lifts given"
