A west Cork man who is in Ukraine with his family is reporting panic buying on the streets, long queues at petrol stations and strong demand for fuel and food supplies.
Eugene O'Sullivan from Bantry is currently in Ukraine with his Ukrainian wife and says he is safe for now.
He is five hours east of Kiev but says Ukrainian media are reporting that there has been a full military invasion by Russia on three fronts.
He says local media say a military airfield near Kiev has been destroyed and Russian troops are gathering at the Port City of Odessa with warning sirens ringing across the Ukraine.
Huge traffic jams can be seen in Kiev - after explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital overnight.
They followed Vladimir Putin's announcement of a Russian military operation in the east of the country, saying he was determined to end '8 years of conflict.'
