34 year old Kevin O'Flynn from Fermoy collapsed while playing soccer with his friends in the city in 2015 and died at CUH ten days later.

Kevin's family were later told that he collapsed due to Sudden Cardiac Death.

Kevin's brother Shane subsequently got involved with the group Cardiac Risk in the Young who have launched a new helpline to support families grieving the loss of someone due to the condition.
The helpline also supports those living with a lifestyle change due a diagnosis of an inherited cardiac condition.

Speaking to RedFM News, Shane O'Flynn says most of the volunteers have suffered the loss of a loved one:

"People kind of keep their feelings of grief to themselves and they sometimes would feel that they might be a burden to others and keep those feelings of grief themselves, whereas for us, we're there to listen, we're trained, we've been affected by sudden cardiac death in some way. So we kind of know or that other person is coming from. And I think another person on the end of the line would just be very happy. And I think that does help me personally because I know I'm doing something to honour Kevin."

The number for the CRY helpline is 1800 714 080
