A Cork mental health unit has been described as being in a ''poor state of repair', with residents feeling 'claustrophic'.
St. Michaels Unit at Mercy University Hospital was marked 72% compliant overall but was in violation of several conditions of registration and regulations.
The report by the Mental Health commission stated the premise was in a poor state structurally and decoratively.
Flooring was marked and shower rooms had poor ventilation - with two rooms containing mould on the ceiling.
Recreational and relaxation areas were described as confined in the report.
Two-bed dormitories did not provide sufficient space to facilitate patient dignity when delivering health exams.
Training for staff had not been completed in areas including fire, safety and sexual safety.
The centre has taken action since the inspection but the report states the unit does not have "acceptable action plans" in place for the most serious issues.
