A Cork mother says she is finding it very difficult to get a place for her daughter in a childcare facility.
Sarah has been trying for a place for years and now urgently needs one following her sons diagnoses of rare genetic disorder.
At least 30 facilities closed in Cork alone in 2023, with those still operating are feeling pressure from high demand.
Speaking on the Neil Prendiville, Sarah says she has contacted every creche in the city - with no success so far:
"Every creche in Cork has an email, for me, and has been, you know, back and forth, to me, and I have been trying to get Chloe's name down on the waiting list, and filling out forms. Like, people are very honest. Like the creche owners are honest, you know,. It's hard to get staff. It's highly regulated at the moment. There's just no places to meet the demand."
