A Cork mother says the fact that she has been forced to call the Gardaí to calm her son down is a damning indictment on the state of mental health supports in Ireland.
Joanne Murphy's 17 year old son Bob lives with autism and a moderate learning difficulty.
Bob was a keen runner before the pandemic, taking part in over 130 park runs, however he has grown increasingly frustrated and anxious due to the lack of disability supports available since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The 6 foot 2 Ballincollig boy is not able to fully express his frustrations and frequently bangs his head against glass windows in his house.
Last week, Joanne was forced to call the emergency services when Bob managed to smash a window with his head.
Speaking to RedFM News, Joanne paid tribute to the Gardaí in Ballincollig, however she says they shouldn't have to be her first port of call.
