Cork Penny Dinners has issued an appeal for school-related materials to help parents meet rising back to school costs.
The charity has seen a sharp rise in people looking for help in recent weeks as schools are re-opening at the end of the month.
Co-ordinator Caitríona Twomey says they have been supporting some families across the summer to meet the expected expenses associated with school going children.
Speaking to RedFM News Catríona says while she welcomes the free book scheme at primary school level more supports for parents are needed:
"There are initiatives out there that the government have put in place but they need to be enhanced, we need more of them. The cost just cripples people and the schools are brilliant but the schools can only work off their grants and what they get so maybe a little bit more funding for schools could help this area as well."
