Cork Penny Dinners say delays in announcing the future of the eviction ban is putting added strain on families who are already struggling.
Caitriona Twomey was speaking after the government said the future of the legislation, which was first introduced during the pandemic, is under "close review."
Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien says no decision has been taken yet, amid calls from several charities for the legislation to be extended.
The current ban will remain in place until the first of April and will be phased out by June.
Speaking to RedFM News, Caitriona Twomey from Cork Penny Dinners is calling for the ban to be extended:
"People know this is coming down the line. They're suffering; their mental health is suffering; and they're being backed more and more and more into a corner. The government needs to be protecting people and to be rescuing those in fierce difficulties at the minute, and not having them suffer more and more mental health issues".
