The charity and Bus Éireann have launched their annual Christmas "Fill-A-Bus" food and toy appeal today.
People are being invited to donate new Christmas toys and non-perishable foods at the Bus Station this Saturday from 10:30am to 5:30pm.
The appeal has been hugely successful in past years with four buses filled with toys and food donations last year.
Everything collected on the day will be distributed to families in need across Cork by Penny Dinners, who say they will be preparing up to 10,000 hampers for Christmas
Speaking to RedFM News, Caitriona Twomey from Cork Penny Dinners says those who need help will get it:
"The demand this year is unreal. People are coming down looking for their Christmas hampers now. They're afraid in case they don't get them. There's an awful lot of worry out there you know- if the country is going into lockdown before Christmas will they have food and whatever?- but they will because people are going to give it to us for to give to all those that are struggling at Christmas"
We're helping @PennyDinnersCor collect non-perishable food items including coffee, tea, cereal & tinned food for the vulnerable & elderly of Cork, along with new toys for boys & girls.
We’ll be parked at Cork Bus Station on Saturday, 27 Nov from 10.30-17.30 @CorksRedFM #FillABus pic.twitter.com/vJGgedHpxk— Bus Éireann (@Buseireann) November 24, 2021
