Cork Penny Dinners has described many children missing out on their only hot meal of the day during school holidays as a crisis.

It comes as the charity has seen an increase in families struggling with the cost of living turning to it for help for as children break from school.

Families tell the charity they can’t afford a hot meal for their children who use the Hot School Meals Scheme during the school year.

Spekaing to RedFM News, Caitriona Twomey of Cork Penny Dinners says the Government needs ensure that no child goes hungry:

"For the families that are struggling, they come to us and they''ll come here for the meals for the children, the route of all of this is the cost of living, that has to be looked at so it's sustainable for every family and that no one has to go through this, whether it's chrismtas, summer holidays or easter holidays"
