Volunteers at Cork Penny Dinners say they’re heartbroken that a homeless woman was attacked in the city.

A woman is still in critical condition after being assaulted on Patrick’s Street by around 3 people at around 8 o’clock on Sunday night.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident outside The Savoy to come forward.

Speaking to RedFM News, Caitriona Twomey from Cork Penny Dinners says the woman who visited the charity regularly was extremely vulnerable:

"My thoughts and all the volunteers of Cork Penny Dinners, our hearts our shattered, an innocent child-like girl is battling for her life, our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this heart-wrenching time. You know you'd be coming in, in the morning and she would be telling us how much she loved us. We know her a very long time."
